Thursday, August 27: ABQ Cine Club is hosting a film screening + fundraiser for Southern Lebanon. The screening will show two films from Jocelyne Saab, a Lebanese journalist and film director recognized as one of the pioneers of Lebanese cinema. In 1976, Saab traveled to the south of Lebanon to document Israeli attacks on villages of Kufr Shuba and Hanine. This exposed that the Israeli army not only targeted Palestinians but also knowingly destroyed Lebanese villages. Four years later she released "Iran: Utopia in The Making", in which she captures the Iranian revolution and explores what this movement means for the Muslim world. 

Call to join subcommittees: If you are looking for a way to plug into The ACP&J activities, please consider joining a subcommittee, in which we do work in focused meetings with other members. This includes Building Maintenance and Upgrades, Fundraising, Programming, Tabling and Policy subcommittees. We are also now putting together a subcommittee for children activities at The Center. Saturday, August 1, 5pm: Dare To Struggle NM is leading a protest at Torrance County Detention Center in Estancia, NM to demand freedom for those kidnapped by ICE.

August 1, 7pm: Dare To Struggle NM is also leading a protest at Otero County Processing Center in honor of a man who died inside the detention camp last weekend.

August 1, 7-11pm: Artists Against the Blockade, a community pop-up market for Cuba at Differential Brewing. This market is to raise money for the HATUEY Project, an organization that provides life-saving cancer medication to Cuban children who are otherwise unable to get the medicine they need under the inhumane US blockade.

Sunday, August 2, 11am: Join the Burque Brown Berets this Sunday at Roosevelt Park (501 Spruce St SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106) for their Annual Backpack & School Supply Distribution! August 2, 12 PM: Documentary film screening of Green is the New Red (De la guerre froide à la guerre verte) by filmmaker Anna Recalde Miranda takes a critical look at Operation Condor a coordiated campaign of political repression across Latin America during the 1970s to examine the roots of Paraguay’s current ecological disaster, uniting land soverignty with human rights. Friday August 7, 6-8pm opening reception: Transfigure is an exhibition by the Radical Intersectional Printmakers’ Guild about radical changes and shifts in our lives, our artistic practices, our techniques, our styles and our ideologies. Transfiguration can be personal - the birth of a child, a major move to a new state; political - revolutionary ideologies about human rights, the environment and war; or cultural -related to concepts of gender, mass media and notions of ownership. August 7, 6:30pm: Alpaca Gallery is hosting a summer long series curated by Mallika Singh titled horizon (i am within a vast structure in my dreams). As part of the series, will host a poetry reading and performance within the theme body (thousands of militants in the streets) featuring local sonic legends Althea Baird, kelechi agwuncha + sarah sao mai habib, and Ryan Dennison.
Then on Friday, August 21, at 6:30pm there will be a poetry reading and performance within the theme home (there are trees in the future) featuring Chasity Salvador, riel bellow, and Lupita Limón Corrales.

Aug 7 thru 10: Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World screening at the Guild Theater, Fri to Mon 5:30pm. This bio-doc on the renowned queer poet and nature lover Mary Oliver features interviews with her close friends, never before seen photographs, correspondence from her archives and recitations of her work.

August 8: Sunset Fest at Tiguex Park, 4pm-9pm
Free live music from Sweet Roll, Treeo, Kid Plastic, The Salt Streaks and DJ Anjo, featuring 20+ art vendors and food trucks, promoting the local non-profit Project Feed the Hood.

August 8, 8:30am - 12 pm: Seed Saving for Small Scale Growers at Chispas Farm. Join farmers and seed educators Tiana Baca and Stuart Soboleski of Tierra Luna Seed Collaborative for a educational field day all about seeds!

August 8, 9 + 10: Our Story Continues: Pueblo Revolt Weekend

Join the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center for a weekend of programming in August 2026 centered on the legacy of the Pueblo Revolt. Together, these programs aim to connect history with contemporary relevance while empowering youth through themes of resilience and community responsibility. All programs are free to attend.

August 15: Albuquerque Mutual Aid is having a donation drive from 11am -1pm at Nahalat Shalom. Items for donation are welcome such as fresh vegetables, shelf stable foods, pet food, personal hygiene items, diapers, socks, tents and sleeping bags. Full list below.

Tuesday August 18th, 6pm: Auntie’s Night Poetry Workshop with Amber McCray, for Native Women 18+

Join Native Community Health Network for a poetry workshop with Amber McCrary, author of Blue Corn Tongue. The workshop will focus on the theme of Indigenous joy and what fulfills us. Dinner and supplies for the workshop provided.

Thursday, August 20, 6-9pm: Ríomas is queer, trans masculine, Puerto Rican-Iranian artist, facilitator, and culture builder based in Portland, Oregon. They will be performing their newest album "Gather Your Resilience: Medicine for Liberation” at Nahalat Shalom. The event will be a blend of performance, ritual, singalong, and community power. Monday Aug 24, 6pm: No Country for Mothers: A Southwest Women’s Law Center Special

Dir. Raeshem Nijhon - 2026 - 78m - The Southwest Women's Law Center (SWLC) and Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) Coalition is hosting screening of a documentary about what motherhood really looks like in America today. The film explores the culture wars surrounding American motherhood and the labels that are distracting us from the real issue: the lack of support for American families. Esperanza, a play by Carlos Morton and Teatro Paragus and based on the film Salt of The Earth, retells the incredible story of the 1951 strike by Mexican American miners against the Empire Zinc Mining Company in Bayard, New Mexico. It highlights the first successful mine strike in U.S. History. When the mining company invoked the Taft-Hartley Act to make it illegal for the miners to strike, their wives and mothers took over the picket line. RESERVE YOUR TICKETS HERE!

The Indian Pueblo Entrepreneur Complex will be holding free trainings for farmers, gardeners, and anyone who would like to learn more about growing. Topics include summer and fall planting techniques, hydroponics systems, DIY cold-bot build, and post-harvest handling. These trainings are ideal for those in rural and urban settings alike. This art exhibit is a collaboration between the Tularosa Basin Downwinders Consortium and the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum. The project examines the impact of nuclear technologies, it’s devastating human and environmental toll, and the artistic expression and activism of community members advocating for justice.
