• NM Gas Co sold to private equity in July: The NM Public Regulation Commission approved the sale of NM Gas Co to private equity firm Bernhard Capital Partners.

• The fight to stop Blackstone from acquiring PNM continues! Stay updated and get involved - https://www.newenergyeconomy.org/

• August brought important victories to stop Project Jupiter, but NM needs all hands on deck against the data center! In a significant victory against Project Jupiter, the NM Supreme Court ruled on 8/24 to grant New Energy Economy’s emergency request to stay the air-permit proceeding, stopping the NM Environment Department’s expedited administrative process until further order of the court.

• ICE kidnappings surge in ABQ: Source NM published an article on 8/26 on the recent uptick in ICE kidnappings. ICE is coordinating with NM State Police as well as probation officers. NM detention camps in Torrance and Otero counties also continue to work with ICE, detaining people illegally despite the passage of HB9 earlier this year which was designed to end NM’s involvement in federal civil immigration detention. In August, The Barelas Neighborhood Association got a notice about a proposed change to the air quality permit for the fuel terminal on Broadway (3209 Broadway Blvd SE, run by Western Refining Terminals / Marathon Petroleum). Get involved in making some noise to secure a public hearing from the city and stop Marathon’s fuel terminal permit change that will create a permanent increase in air pollution for the Barelas neighborhood. https://barelas.org/

THERE IS A FIELD is a film about activists from the Black Lives Matter movement who perform a play telling the story of an unarmed 17-year-old Palestinian, Asel Asleh who was shot and killed during a demonstration calling for an end to the Israeli occupation. Set in Palestine and performed by BIPOC artist and activists in the US, the film builds solidarity across intersectional struggles for liberation and decolonization. A conversation with performers from the film in person to follow.
